École Enchanté – La Craie

This afternoon we experimented with “la craie” (chalk). We had thick and thin options, containers, wood pieces, and face molds. We explored what happens when chalk gets crushed, mixed with snow and ice, and we asked can it colour the same way on “la neige” (the snow) and “le trottoir” (the sidewalk)? Check out the photos to see what we discovered – including some sculptures from winter fun day!

We also celebrated la semaine de la Francophonie by writing messages and playing hopscotch en Francais!

We will see you tomorrow for our school wide show. Please come dressed in blue jeans, a white shirt, and sneakers. We will meet at 6:20 pm in our classroom and walk to the gym together. À demain!

SK celebrates 100 Day!!

Yesterday was the 100th day of school and SK spent the day celebrating in many different ways!! We started by reading a story called “William’s 100th Day of School” and then we did a special 100 Day workout – we warmed up by running on the spot for 100 seconds and then did 10 different exercises 10 times each…. Phew!! It was a great way to work out our bodies and our minds, never mind that it helped us practice counting by 10s!  Mr. Ebbs had a special 100 Day colouring project for the class and we spent the rest of the morning counting, measuring and comparing 100 different objects.  Did you know that 100 marbles are heavier than 100 cotton balls? Or that 100 chain links are longer than 100 unifix cubes?  SK does!!  We even had 100 Day activities en francais and ended our day with a 100 Day parade, counting 100 steps around the hallways and showing off our 100 Day crowns.  What a day!! Check out the pictures below from our celebrations….

Don’t forget, we are still looking for prizes for our Purim Carnival, so if you have any unused or unwanted toys at home, please send them into school before next Tuesday!

Winter Fun Day is Coming!!!

Next Thursday, February 16th is Winter Fun Day at OJCS!! Woohoo!!

We are looking forward to a fantastic fun-filled day, but we wanted to let you know about of a few important things….

Please ensure that your child is dressed warmly!! Students do not need to wear uniforms – comfy, cozy clothes and layers are encouraged.   We highly recommend sending an extra set of clothes, especially extra socks, to school as it is likely the kids will need to change.  Extra mittens or gloves and snowpants if you have them would also be helpful!! Aside from our usual outdoor play periods, SK will be spending an extra period outside in the morning building snowmen and most of the afternoon will be outdoors as they participate in École Enchantée (French Forest school) with Madame Susan and Mr. Ebbs.

Morning drop-off will be on the playground as usual.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!

Are you looking to purge some unwanted and/or gently-used toys from your house? We are looking for prizes for the upcoming OJCS Purim Carnival, so any donations can be brought to school.

Scholastic Book Fair is coming to OJCS and other important reminders….

Next week, the OJCS Scholastic Book Fair begins!!  SK will be visiting the Book Fair on Thursday, December 8th and the kids will have a chance to purchase some books.  We have already sent home a flyer in your child’s Note Tote…. if you would like to go through it or check out the Virtual Book Fair Link with your child and pick a few options, it will give you a sense of how much money to send to school.  We ask that you send your child’s money in a ziploc baggie with their name on it and the total amount you are sending.  You can also send a list of preferred books with your child, though we cannot guarantee that every title will be available.  If you would prefer to make your purchases online, that’s more than fine, but please ensure that your child understands that they will not be buying a book at school.  Parents are also welcome to visit the Book Fair during the designated times as outlined on the poster below.  Any questions?  Feel free to comment on this post!
