Coding in Kindergarten

Today the Kinders were introduced to the world of coding:

What are the benefits of learning to code?

Coding helps teach problem- solving skills.

Coding helps children develop new ways of thinking by breaking up big problems into smaller steps.

Coding helps take the fear out of making mistakes or failing. It teaches persistence in finding a way to solve your problem.

We started with a new Lego Secret Code Board and will gradually introduce the concept of moving on grids, and different activities that promotes coding in Kindergarten.

The concept of this activity  we used today is quite simple- create a code using a different lego piece for each letter of the alphabet.

We look forward to solving and creating new secret codes!

Now all we need is some stuff from you, don’t worry it’s only a thing or two.

So here’s the list, it’s just a bit, our Seder is sure to be a hit!

K1 & K2 will be having a Model Seder together on Wednesday, April 17th at 11:45.

For the day of our Model Seder each student is asked to bring the following items in a ZIPLOCK BAG with their name on it (in addition to their lunch):

  • 1 Hard boiled egg (peeled and wrapped please)
  • 1 or 2 small celery sticks
  • 1 Leaf of romaine lettuce

The remainder of the Seder ingredients, such as egg matzah, horseradish, NUT FREE charoset, and grape juice, will be provided by the P.T.A.

Should you have any concerns regarding food allergies, please provide your child with his/her own food.

Wishing you a wonderful Pesach Holiday!

Sincerely,

The Kindergarten Team.

We added the reading Website called Teach your Monster to Read to our Literacy Centres .

Writing and Reading in our class is always an exciting time. After hearing the story I Don’t  want to be a Frog,  we wrote a journal entry about why we would or wouldn’t want to be a frog.

A Day in Kindergarten is a day of learning!

So much inquiry and learning while we continue to explore The Rainforest. Using Art, writing in our Rainforest Facts books, discovering how the Blue Morpho butterfly became so beautiful, and integrating math by making 3 different size play dough snakes  with a partner and  placing them on a mat according to length .

Our Reading Buddies listened to us read our books on Natural vs Man-made. Together the class worked with their buddy to complete an activity and discussed and sorted pictures . Lots of pics to help you share our day !

Today we learned how to use Prodigy Math Website. We will be using the site in our class to help reinforce our math skills. In your child’s note tote you will find the information you need to use the site at home if you choose to.

Looking forward to Book Fair tomorrow! Enjoy the Picture Gallery!
